Gastric bypass surgery is done on the patients who are obese and have no other option left other than to get the surgery done to educe their weight.
In this procedure the stomach size is reduced to an extent that you just cannot eat big meals. This helps to limit your intake as well as the frequency of the intake is limited.
The gastric surgery is also known as the bariatric surgery. Other type of bariatric surgery is known as the Lap Band surgery.
In both the surgeries the food intake is reduced. The side effect of this is that since you just cannot east the normal quantities of food the intake of essential vitamins and the minerals into your body is reduced. This can have severe effects on your body and hence it is advised by the doctors to take the gastric bypass vitamins.
The most essential vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin C are critical to the functioning of the body. Since the body does not have these in good quantities chances are that it will start affecting your bones and other critical organs.
Doctors generally recommend that you should start the intake of the essential vitamins five days before the operation. In the post operative phase it is recommended that multivitamin tablets be taken daily. In the first few days high protein meals as well as specific Vitamin B12 supplements should be taken to make sure that your body is not scarce of the more critical vitamins.
