The Lap band system is the newest form of treatment for people that are extensively over weight. This is a surgical treatment and the FDA has approved it. This system will induce weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach and will restrict the amount of food that can be consumed by the person.

For the procedure, a physician will use laproscopic techniques to make small incisions using a long instrument rather than a large incision to implant the inflatable silicone band onto the patient's abdomen. This is similar to a wristwatch. The band is fastened around the upper part of the stomach and will create a new and smaller stomach capacity that will limit the amount of food that can be entered.

By doing this, it will limit the amount of food that you eat. This process will also produce a small outlet that slows the passing process into the stomach and the intestines. With this process, the patients are feeling fuller faster and are more satisfied with less food. This is the reason behind the weight loss.

There is no staples or cutting involved in this Lap band procedure. It is not invasive and will be less traumatic for the person undergoing the procedure. There is very little time spent in the hospital before and after the surgery. The recovery time is also a lot faster than that of any other surgical procedure. In all it is a much easier way of weight loss that requires a form of surgery.

One thing to remember is that the Lap band is a form of adjustable surgical weight loss. The diameter of the band is adjustable so that you can meet your individual needs. This band can be changed as you loose the weight.

To change the size of the band is a simple procedure. The inner surface of the band can be inflated or deflated with saline solution. The band is connected by tubing to a reservoir, which is put under the skin with surgery. When this procedure is finished, the person performing can control the amount of saline in the band by entering the reservoir with a fin needle through the skin.

This is a surgical procedure and does have risks. There is no guarantee that this procedure will work for everyone and there may be complications due to the surgery. This is some thing that can be used as a last resort for many people that cannot over come their weight problems. This will be something that can help change a life with a weight loss that can be dramatic in their appearance and self-confidence.
